CM Maryam Nawaz launches ‘New era…clean Lahore’ initiative for city’s renovation

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif convened a special meeting in Lahore, reaffirming her dedication to revamping the city’s cleanliness and organisation.

According to media reports, CM Maryam, while addressing the official gathering, unveiled the “New Era…Clean Lahore” initiative, presenting a comprehensive strategy to elevate the city’s infrastructure and sanitation standards.

At the heart of the initiative lies the comprehensive renovation of Lahore’s primary and secondary thoroughfares, with a primary emphasis on street paving and the deployment of resilient tuff tiles, alongside a notable concentration on reviving 222,000 streetlights throughout the city to improve visibility and bolster the safety of its residents.

Furthermore, CM Maryam emphasised a strict three-month timeline for the swift execution of the development plan, committing to monitor progress every ten days personally.

Meanwhile, addressing water management concerns, CM Maryam directed the immediate activation of all water filtration plants in Lahore.

During the meeting, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) unveiled an elaborate strategy for the overhaul of drainage and sewerage systems in nine city zones, incorporating talks on sewer master plans and the construction of water collection tanks, with the CM directing WASA to devise a phased plan to extend its scope and meet the necessary resource and machinery needs.

The high-profile meeting witnessed the presence of key officials, including Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bukhari, among others.
