PM Shehbaz: Bisham terror attack targeted ‘extraordinary’ Pak-China friendship

DASU: In the wake of the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of Chinese engineers in Bisham, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences and condemned the cowardly act aimed at sowing discord between Pakistan and China.

Addressing Chinese engineers during his visit to Dasu tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohistan district on Monday, PM Shehbaz underscored the significance of the camaraderie between Pakistan and China, labeling it as “extraordinary.”

“The incident was aimed to damage extraordinary friendship between Pakistan and China,” said Shehbaz.

According to media reports, PM Shehbaz vowed that the government would spare no effort in apprehending the terrorists responsible for the heinous attack. He announced a high-level probe through a joint investigation team to identify the culprits and ensure they face justice.

The attack, which claimed the lives of five Chinese citizens and a Pakistani driver, was carried out by a suicide bomber who targeted their vehicle in Shangla’s Bisham city. Following the attack, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) detained over 10 terrorists and facilitators allegedly involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Airbase, where a 30-second silence was observed as the bodies of the Chinese nationals were airlifted back to China. Floral wreaths were laid on behalf of the President, PM, Army Chief, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza.

In response to security concerns, Chinese companies overseeing operations at the Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha Dams sites temporarily suspended civil work. Approximately 991 Chinese engineers were working on both projects, with local staff instructed to remain at home until further notice.
