By WEB DESK: Sri Lanka’s impressive 192-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Test in Chattogram has elevated them to fourth place in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship standings, as reported by BBC Sport.
The Asian side secured a convincing 2-0 series sweep over Bangladesh during the opening session on the fifth day of the final Test, with Khaled Ahmed being the final Bangladesh batter to fall at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
With this triumph, Sri Lanka surpassed Pakistan in the standings, now boasting a 50 per cent points percentage. They trail behind India, Australia, and New Zealand, who hold the top three positions.
Having two home series ahead, Sri Lanka is scheduled to face New Zealand later this year followed by two Tests against Australia in early 2025.
Their next challenge awaits in England with a three-match series commencing in August, where they aim to carry forward the confidence gained from their dominant series victory in Bangladesh.

Kamindu Mendis emerged as the leading run-scorer of the series with an impressive tally of 367 runs at an average of 122.33. His unbeaten 92 in the first innings contributed significantly to Sri Lanka’s total of 531, with their bowlers swiftly dismissing Bangladesh for just 178 in reply.
The bowling department excelled as well, with Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara leading the charge. Fernando claimed four wickets in the first innings, while Kumara replicated the feat in the second innings to seal Sri Lanka’s victory.
On the other hand, Bangladesh has dropped to equal seventh position in the updated World Test Championship standings. They are set to face Pakistan later this year in a two-match Test series.
